A String Of Words
Book / 2009
This 28 page book explores typography in the world of Heavy Metal music. It is a compilation of type treatments and illustrations used in metal band logos and word marks. Due to many bands' fascination with the middle and dark ages there's an abundance of straightforward black letter word marks. In this book though, I've tried to focus on the variety of intricate and highly illustrative works of type in the world of metal.
The point of the project was to create a book purely by hand. Each illustration is drawn using bamboo pens and indian ink on handmade Khadi paper. The front and back covers are supported with carton and are wrapped in leather. The front also features an embossed guitar pick. The covers and single sheets are bound together using sewing thread and the bloody guitar strings of Vancouver death metal guitarist Jordan Vandetti.
